How to Make Cannabis Glycerin Concentrate

Glycerin is a liquid, sugar alcohol and has 60% sweetness. Using glycerine you can make an extremely tasty cannabis concentrate. If you use cold extraction methods it preserves individual flavours. Here we will give you a hot extraction recipe that will take only take 24 hours. Cold extraction is a longer process for THC vape juice and takes anywhere from 60 to 120 days. The recipe detailed here makes quite a potent water soluble cannabis glycerine concentrate.  Though some might like to use weed buds this recipe has been made with cannabis trims.

Ingredients

  • 118ml of food grade vegetable glycerine
  • 25gms of cannabis trim

Kitchen Equipment:

  • Crock pot
  • A porcelain bowl
  • Wooden spoon
  • Glass jar
  • Coffee grinder
  • Potato ricer /jelly press/ French coffee press
  • Funnel
  • Cheesecloth

Directions

You have to ensure that the cannabis has been thoroughly dried. If not then you could add a decarboxylation step. Spread the trim on cookie sheet and heat the oven to about 200°F. To test if it is ready, roll a little between your thumb and finger. If it breaks easily you are ready to make the concentrate.

Place the cannabis in the coffee grinder and powder it a bit. Don’t make it too fine. Choose a bowl that will take 118ml of glycerine and 25gms and leave a bit of room at the top for expansion due to heat. Stir the cannabis and glycerine so that the glycerine spreads into the cannabis thoroughly.

Place the bowl inside the crock pot. Turn on the heat to about 180°F. After an hour the colour will change from bright green to olive. Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon and return to crockpot and continue to heat. After 6 to 7 hours the mixture will have turned brownish. While the mixture heats for the next 24 hours stir it every 3 to 4 hours with the wooden spoon. After 24 hours, place the mixture in a cheesecloth and wrap it up. Put it into a rice press to extract the concentrate. Place a funnel inside a glass jar and press out the concentrate into the funnel. Close the lid of the jar and place the cannabis glycerine concentrate in the refrigerator. Use a dropper to remove the concentrate when you need it. Use it carefully as it is very potent.

Remember to keep the temperature low in the crock pot so as not to destroy the aromatic terpenoids and slowdecarboxylation process retains a high THC. If possible do not decarboxylate prior to the 24 hour infusion making process. If you pre-decarboxylate, the infusion can be prepared in a couple of hours, stirring often. However, you will get neither the toasted flavour nor the dark brown colour.

The cannabis glycerine concentrate can be used in a number of ways. Place it under your tongue. Sweeten anything you use a liquid sweetener like honey for or use it in food like beef jerky.
